Pavement design aims at determining the total thickness of the pavement structure as well as the thickness of the individual structural components for carrying the estimated traffic loading under the prevailing climatic conditions with satisfactory performance of the pavement.In structural design the stresses due traffic loading and temperature are estimated, and the thickness of the pavement is designed in such a way that these developed stresses/ strains are below the allowable values.In India, IRC: 37-2012 generally adopted for flexible pavement design   as a Guideline and IITPAVE is used for  pavement analysis.
